How do websites from free web hosting companies fare when it comes to SEO optimization?
i don't believe sites hosted with free hosting companies would be penalized in any way by search engines. SE only interested with sites that human would love. that is their target to please their humanly client. if human shown dissatisfaction in seeing sites hosted with free site because the site say it is hosted by a free host and has forces ads on it then the search engine won't rank high for it. a free site can only be recognized if there are forces ads on them and has long URL. so if you can find free hosting companies that allow you to host your own domain which is only average USD10 per year and won't put force ads on your free site then nobody would mind it at all.
