Is there a law on web hosting?

if no why?
Is there a law on web hosting?
There are _some_ laws that apply regarding web hosting. These of course depend on your country of hosting. But generally, these are pretty common things: defamation and slander laws, racism, publication of private data, hosting child pornography, copyrighted content, sending spam, terroristic threats and support, etc. In places like China you also have things like anti-government material to worry about.

Beyond what the law covers, most actual web hosting companies will have their own policies about what you can or cannot host, which usually just iterate over the laws, and include things like harassment, abuse, bigotry/racism, pornography etc. But like the above guy says, if you choose to run your own sever (not that hard, I do it myself) you can host whatever you want so long as it's legal.

Umm, you mean about who is allowed to host stuff? I don't think so.

Theoretically, you could set up any home computer as a web server. If you wanted to go to the trouble of upkeep, making sure it was connected to the internet 24/7, etc. etc..

The only thing is getting the server set up. Which is beyond the scope of my knowledge. But in any case, I'm unaware of any laws regulating what can and cannot be hosted.

At least, not in the U.S.. Some Asian/Middle-Eastern countries restrict what can be viewed online. But the internet is a world-wide connection. Even censor laws can't restrict what goes on the internet. Just what people are allowed to view online.
